NAIA No. 16 Viterbo Looks To Remain Perfect In Upcoming Women's Volleyball Tournament
CHICAGO --- NAIA No. 16-ranked Viterbo University will look to keep its league record perfect when the 2025 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament kicks off at four separate sites on Tuesday night. Including postseason play, the V-Hawks are a perfect 35-0 against league teams since joining the conference last fall.
Viterbo (24-8) claimed its second straight regular-season title by going 18-0 this time around after finishing 14-0 one year ago. The V-Hawks are now looking to defend their tournament title after sweeping the three postseason matches last fall.
As the No. 1 seed in the eight-team field, Viterbo will be joined by No. 2 seed University of St. Francis (18-13), No. 3 Saint Xavier University (16-9) and No. 4 Trinity Christian College (13-15) in hosting quarterfinal-round contests. The rest of the field consists of No. 5 Governors State University (11-21), No. 6 Olivet Nazarene University (11-21), No. 7 Indiana University South Bend (13-19) and No. 8 Indiana University Northwest (13-20).
The first-round matchups have Indiana Northwest heading north to face Viterbo, Indiana South Bend going to Joliet, Ill. to meet St. Francis, Olivet Nazarene at Saint Xavier and Governors State taking the short trip to Trinity Christian.
The two interesting quarterfinal contests will be Governors State vs. Trinity Chrisitan and Indiana South Bend against St. Francis. Paired during the regular season, those teams split their two contests.
As for the other two matchups, Viterbo went 1-0 against Indiana Northwest and Saint Xavier defeated Olivet Nazarene twice.
Tuesday's four winners advance to Thursday's semifinal round at the sites of the highest remaining seeds. The championship will take place on Saturday.
Viterbo has already earned one of the two conference bids to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The other bid will go to the winner of the tournament or the runner-up should Viterbo prevail.
