GSU's Bochert, Martinez, VU's Germann Lead Respective Teams To 2-0 League Weeks, Gain Women's VB Honors
CHICAGO --- Leading their respective teams to 2-0 league records during the seven-day period ending Oct. 5, Governors State University's Greta Bochert (Stuttgart, Germany) and Alexah Martinez (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) and Viterbo University's Resse Germann (Fulton, Ill.) have claimed Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week distinction, the CCAC office announced on Tuesday.
Bochert used identical performances to garner CCAC Attacker of the Week honors. In each of her three matches played last week, she recorded 19 kills, while also totaling double-digit dig numbers. The freshman outside hitter finished the week attacking at a .341 clip with an average of 4.75 kills and 2.83 digs per set. She also produced five blocks.
Bochert opened the seven-day stretch with 19 kills and 13 digs in a four-set decision over Indiana University Northwest last Tuesday. That was followed by her 19 kills and 11 digs in another four-set victory versus Mount Mary University on Thursday. In that win, she had just one error in 35 attack attempts for a .514 hitting percentage.
Bochert closed out the week with 19 more kills, 10 digs and three assisted blocks in a four-set loss to North Park University.
Martinez averaged an even 10.0 assists over her three matches and 12 sets played to garner CCAC Setter of the Week recognition. Her top mark for the week was her 45 assists in the Indiana Northwest matchup, where she also totaled ten digs.
The junior registered her second double-double of the week on Friday when she posted 37 assists and 11 digs against North Park. In that same match, she recorded three aces.
One day earlier, Martinez totaled four aces to go along with 38 assists and four digs versus Mount Mary.
Governors State's 2-1 week put the Jaguars at 5-3 against league foes and 6-17 overall.
Germann used her 5.43 digs-per-set average along with 51 receptions against only one error (.980) in a pair of league wins to secure the CCAC Defender of the Week award. The highlight was her 22-dig, three-ace match vs. Olivet Nazarene last Tuesday, where she also had 29 passes against only one error.
The freshman defensive specialist followed that up with a perfect passing match (22-for-22) and 16 digs in a three-set win over Indiana South Bend on Saturday.
Viterbo's 2-0 week kept the NAIA No. 16-ranked V-Hawks perfect in the conference (8-0), while improving to 14-5 overall.
