First Meet Title Lands First Collegiate Weekly Honors For GSU's Flowers

CHICAGO --- A first-place finish in her inaugural college meet has earned Governors State University's Sophia Flowers (Romeoville, Ill.) her first collegiate recognition, gaining Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.  The league office made the announcement on Wednesday.

Flowers, a freshman, bested a field of 82 runners at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Saints Twilight Invite on Friday night.  She covered the 5K course in 18:38.97.

Governors State also claimed the meet title as a team, placing ahead of eight other squads.
