SAU's Horst, GSU's Jimenez Gain Honors In First Week of Conference Play
CHICAGO --- A nine-point week by St. Ambrose University's Jenna Horst (Peoria, Ill.) and Governors State University's Valentina Jimenez (Bogota, Columbia) holding the opposition scoreless over two games have gained the duo Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week accord, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Horst put up three goals and three assists for the seven-day period from Sept. 22-28 en route to CCAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition. She accounted for better than half of the Fighting Bees' scoring in the two matches the team played last week.
In a 9-0 victory over Mount Mary University last Tuesday, the senior forward delivered two goals and two assists. Four days later, she scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner in a 2-1 nod over University of St. Francis on Saturday.
The two wins were the first two of the league season for St. Ambrose, which is now 2-1-1 in the CCAC and 4-5-1 overall.
Jimenez claimed CCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after stopping seven shots and not allowing a goal in her 135 minutes played during the seven-day period. Her first complete-game shutout of the campaign came in a 3-0 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday. In that contest, she notched six saves.
The senior also started last Tuesday's 0-0 tie with Indiana University Northwest, recording one save in her 45 minutes of action.
Governors State is 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 against the league following its 1-0-1 week.
