USF's Flores, ONU's Linares Garner Women's Soccer Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- On Tuesday morning, the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced University of St. Francis' Kelly Flores (Hanover Park, Ill.) and Olivet Nazarene University's Helen Linares (Chicago, Ill.) as its women's soccer weekly award winners for the seven-day period ending Sept. 14.
Flores was named the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week after producing one goal and two assists in a pair of split decisions for the Fighting Saints. The bigger of the two performances came on Saturday when she played a role in both USF goals in a 4-2 loss to NAIA No. 6 Marian University (Ind.) with one tally and one assist.
The junior midfielder also provided an assist in a 3-0 Saints' win over Aurora University on Wednesday night.
USF moved its record to 3-1-1 on the campaign with its 1-1 week.
Linares claimed CCAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition by gaining the win in goal in a 4-1 victory over Huntington University (Ind.) on Saturday. The junior collected three saves, while yielding the one goal in the decision.
The win moved ONU to 2-0-1 on the year.
Other Offensive Nominees: Koumba Dembele (Governors State), Melea Miller (Olivet Nazarene), Nikolina Panagiotou (Calumet St. Joseph), Xiomara Santana (Indiana Northwest).
Other Defensive Nominees: Kaleigh Blatti (Calumet St. Joseph), Isabel Escalera (Indiana Northwest).
