ONU's Marshall, SXU's Peetz Recognized With Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Olivet Nazarene University's Brooklyn Marshall (Metamora, Ill.) averaged a double-double to land Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill.) gained her second weekly defensive award of the season when the league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
Marshall put up a 19.0 scoring clip to go along with 10.5 rebounds per game to gain the offensive recognition. She also shot 60 percent from the field (15-of-25) and was 8-of-9 at the foul line, while adding four assists, four steals and two blocks to the week's totals.
The senior forward had a big game last Wednesday when she nearly matched her 18 points with 14 rebounds in a 119-42 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph. Eleven of the boards came on offense and resulted in her second double-double of the campaign.
Marshall followed that performance up with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting (.667), seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in a 111-69 decision over Indiana University Northwest on Saturday.
Olivet Nazarene stayed in the thick of the race for the top spot in the league with its two wins. The Tigers are 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
Peetz, meanwhile, averaged 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks on the defensive end of the court in a pair of games last week to garner the CCAC recognition. Overall, she posted a 9.5 rebounding average.
Nine of Peetz's ten rebounds in a 43-39 setback to Holy Cross College on Wednesday came on defense. That went along with her three steals, one block and four points.
Then, on Saturday, the freshman forward totaled four steals, four blocks and nine rebounds (six defensive) in a 66-60 win against St. Ambrose University.
Saint Xavier is now 13-6 overall and 9-2 against league competition.
