IUSB's Phelps, ONU's Marshall Secure Women's Basketball Weekly Awards
CHICAGO --- Recording some of the best numbers of their career, Indiana University South Bend's Tenleigh Phelps (Shelbyville, Ind.) and Olivet Nazarene University's Brooklyn Marshall (Metamora, Ill.) have earned the duo Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the seven-day period ending Dec. 1, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Phelps just missed setting a new school single-game scoring record en route to CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord. She fell just two points away from breaking her own school record with her 41-point showing in a 74-64 victory over neighboring rival Holy Cross College last Tuesday in the Titans' only game of the week. The senior guard converted 14 of her 21 shots from the field, including all five three-point attempts, while also adding eight free throws in ten attempts.
Despite missing the school record, Phelps still came away with a double-double by authoring ten rebounds. She also provided three steals and one assist.
Indiana South Bend is 7-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Marshall gained the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week nod by recording a career-best five steals in Olivet Nazarene's 107-65 victory against St. Ambrose University last Monday. The junior forward's other numbers included nine rebounds, one block, one assists and three points.
The game was the only one last week for the Tigers, who are 4-4 overall and 2-0 in CCAC play.
