USF's Landeros, SAU's Maro Gain Week 10 Softball Accolades
CHICAGO --- University of St. Francis' Isabella Landeros (Frankfort, Ill.) drove in runs in seven of eight games and St. Ambrose University's Leah Maro (Davenport, Iowa) registered two wins and a save during the seven-day period between April 6-12 to claim Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly softball accolades, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Landeros, the CCAC Player of the Week, was unstoppable during USF's 6-2 week, batting .640 with 14 runs batted in. She also produced a .960 slugging percentage courtesy of five doubles and one home run among her 16 hits.
The senior catcher's 2.0 hits-per-game average came after she authored seven multi-hit affairs highlighted by a pair of three-for-three contests. Those came against Indiana University South Bend on Monday and Mount Mary University on Wednesday. In the 31-0 latter effort, she drove in six runs, including four on a grand slam.
Defensively, Landeros recorded 45 putouts and seven assists against one error. Two of the assists came when she threw out a pair of runners attempting to steal. She was also behind the plate for USF's five-inning perfect game in the 31-0 contest.
USF's 6-2 week put the Saints at 29-10 overall and 15-3 against the league.
Maro's CCAC Pitcher of the Week honor was her second of the season.
She needed just five innings in each game – a 10-2 triumph over Judson University last Tuesday and an 11-1 victory against Trinity Christian College on Saturday – to earn the two wins, allowing no more than two runs in either of the contests. Her save came in a three-inning effort of a 3-0 shutout of Judson University last Wednesday.
The junior pitcher recorded 17 strikeouts against just one walk in her 14 innings of work last week, while posting a 2.00 earned run average. She improved to 13-5 on the season with the two victories.
St. Ambrose remained in the thick of the CCAC race with its perfect 6-0 week. The Bees are currently 25-12 overall and 15-2 in the CCAC to sit second in the standings.
