SXU's Casas Repeats, USF's Schofield Earns First Weekly Softball Honor
CHICAGO --- Leading their respective teams to victories over NAIA ranked foes, Saint Xavier University's Jazmyn Casas (Berwyn, Ill.) and University of St. Francis' Kaitlyn Schofield (Newark, Ill.) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Casas hit safely in each of SXU's six games last week, including wins over No. 21 Georgia Gwinnett College and No. 22 William Carey University (Miss.), to capture her second straight weekly award. She hit .474 (9-for-19) over the seven-day stretch with three multi-hit affairs. She also delivered seven runs batted in and a pair of stolen bases.
In the 7-2 victory over Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday, the sophomore infielder went 2-for-3 with a run batted in. She also drove in another two runs on a pair of hits in the 4-1 decision over William Carey on Sunday.
Casas' other two-hit game came on Saturday in a 8-4 victory over Campbellsville University (Ky.).
Saint Xavier is 11-7 overall on the campaign after going 4-2 last week.
Schofield captured her first league honor by securing a 7-1 complete-game victory over No. 6-ranked Madonna University (Mich.) on Sunday. The junior hurler induced 13 ground ball outs among her 21 total in the contest. All nine hits that she allowed were singles, six of which were in the infield.
Schofield also struck out three batters against one walk.
St. Francis went 1-1 on the week and is 9-4 overall.
