Softball Tournament Title Game Halted By Rain, To Be Continued Monday
CROWN POINT, Ind. --- The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference will have to wait one more day before declaring a champion in the 2025 softball tournament after rain halted play in the title game on Sunday afternoon. Top-seeded Saint Xavier University (35-6) and No. 3 St. Ambrose University (28-19) were tied at three-all when play was halted in the top of the second inning at the Crown Point Sportsplex.
The game will be continued on Monday at noon. If St. Ambrose wins, a second championship contest would be played between the two teams 20 minutes after the conclusion of the continued game.
SAU advanced to the title game after defeating No. 6 seed Calumet College of St. Joseph to end its Cinderella run with an 8-2 decision. The Fighting Bees put the game out of reach early, scoring seven runs over the first two innings.
Mady Reed's two-run double sparked a four-run second inning after St. Ambrose went up 3-0 in its first at-bat. She finished the day driving in three runs.
The Fighting Bees also gained two hits apiece from Mya Millsaps (1 RBI), Becca Haag (1 RBI) and Reagan Engberg (2 runs).
Ada Boysen (10-2) went the first four innings to pick up the win on the mound. Allyson Harrold earned the save with three innings of scoreless relief.
Ally Sims had two of Calumet St. Joseph's five hits.
