ONU's Ooms, Gonzalez, SXU's Marten Pick Up Men's Volleyball Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Leading their respective teams to non-league wins during the seven-day period between Feb. 9-15, Olivet Nazarene University's Cade Ooms (Minooka, Ill.) and Tomas Gonzalez (Bogota, Columbia) and Saint Xavier University's Tysen Marten (Apple Valley, Minn.) have garnered Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Ooms was recognized as the CCAC Attacker of the Week after producing 5.0 kills per set and hitting at a .423 clip in a three-set win over Goshen College (Ind.) on Friday. Defensively, the senior outside hitter recorded 23 passes with only one error and 11 digs.
Gonzalez averaged 14.33 assists per set to land CCAC Setter of the Week honors. The senior also provided eight digs and one block in the victory against Goshen College.
The contest was the only one on the week for ONU, which is 5-7 overall.
Myers was tough at the net last week to the tune of 12 blocks over two matches (1.71 avg.) to claim CCAC Defender of the Week accolades. He authored a season-high seven blocks (three solo) and six kills in a four-set victory against NCAA II Roosevelt University last Tuesday.
The senior middle blocker followed that up with five more blocks and seven more kills in a straight-set win opposite NAIA No. 15 Georgetown College (Ky.).
NAIA No. 2-ranked Saint Xavier extended its winning streak to six matches with the two victories last week. The Cougars are 7-2 overall.
