Wins Over Top 10 Programs Lands Sweep of Men's Volleyball Weekly Honors For SXU

CHICAGO --- A pair of wins over NAIA Top 10 clubs led to a sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball weekly awards for the Saint Xavier University program on Tuesday morning when they were announced.  Gaining the recognition were upperclassmen Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont.), Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb.).

Daniels grabbed his second straight CCAC Setter of the Week award after averaging 9.57 assists per set and totaling five blocks and eight digs in the two victories.  He recorded 34 assists (11.33 avg.) and three blocks in a three-set win over No. 7 Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) on Saturday.

The junior also put up 33 assists, six digs and two blocks in a four-set decision against No. 3 St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Thursday.

Cox, meanwhile, had a big week both offensively and defensively to notch CCAC Attacker of the Week recognition.  He turned in an average of 3.14 kills per set on a .356 attacking percentage with one block per set.  He was also perfect in 43 reception attempts.

In the win over Lawrence Tech, the junior outside hitter averaged 4.67 kills per set with only three errors in 22 chances (.500 attack pct.).  He also added three blocks.

Cox produced another eight kills, four blocks and 29 receptions in the match against St. Thomas.

Velez's 3.0 digs per set and .968 reception mark led to his being named the CCAC Defender of the Week.  The senior libero totaled 13 digs (4.33 avg.) and 17 receptions in 18 chances versus Lawrence Tech.

He provided another eight digs and 13 passes against St. Thomas.

The No. 2-ranked Cougars are 3-2 on the young campaign.

Other Defender Nominees: Styrk Myhre (Viterbo), Michael Bos (St. Ambrose), Josh Lahti (Calumet St. Joseph), Tyler Van Laten (Olivet Nazarene), Grant Shipley (Judson), Pablo Pascual (Governors State).

Other Setter Nominees: Logan Amdur (Viterbo), David Navata (Calumet St. Joseph), Felipe Prieto (St. Ambrose), Lucas Lapa (Governors State).
