SAU's Grandon, SXU's Foster Break Records, Claim Weekly T&F Awards
CHICAGO --- Record-setting performances by St. Ambrose University's Dylan Grandon (Urbandale, Iowa) and Saint Xavier University's Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill.) during the seven-day period ending April 13 have netted Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's outdoor track & field weekly honors for the pair of individuals. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday.
Grandon was recognized as the CCAC Track Athlete of the Week after setting a school record in the 800-meter run at the Jim Duncan Invitational on Friday with his time of 1:50.51. That hit the NAIA "B" standard.
One day later at the Mount Mercy University (Iowa) Mustang Distance Carnival & Open, the sophomore provided a time of 49.17 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Both efforts placed Grandon fourth in a field of better than 30 participants.
Foster used a pair of first-place finishes to net CCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. His record came in the long jump, where he became the first Cougar to surpass the 7.0-meter mark with his 7.03 distance (23 feet, 0.75 inches) at the Olivet Nazarene University Tiger Open on Saturday.
The senior collected his other first-place finish in the triple jump, where he marked at 14.16 meters (46 feet, 5.5 inches). Nine individuals made up that event, while 19 competed in the long jump.
Other Track Nominees: Trey Sheron (Judson), Austin Tice (Olivet Nazarene).
Other Field Nominees: Joe Reinhart (St. Ambrose).
