SXU's Franklin, Arokoyo Repeat As Men's Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Winners
CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University's Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill.) and Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill.) have repeated as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Franklin claimed a pair of events at the Chicagoland Championships on Saturday, winning both the 110-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay, teaming up with three other Cougars.
The junior initially hit the NAIA "B" standard in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles with his time of 14.36 seconds. He followed that up with the only sub-15 second time in the finals (14.63) to out-perform 26 other participants.
SXU's winning relay team posted a time of 41.85 seconds among 14 total squads competing.
Arokoyo earned a first-place mark and a runner-up finish in the discus and shot put events, respectively, at the same Chicagoland Championships meet to garner his second honor.
The senior hit the "A" standard for the second week in a row with his 52.22-meter (171 foot, 4 inch) throw in the discus to out-duel 41 other challengers. He placed second among 39 qualifiers in the shot put with his toss of 15.37 meters (50 feet, 5.25 inches).
