SXU's Franklin, Foster Wrap Up Indoor T&F Season With Sweep of Weekly Awards
CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University closed out the indoor men's track & field weekly awards season for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference by sweeping the final two honors courtesy of the performances of Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill.) and Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill.) during the seven-day period ending Feb. 16, the league office announced on Wednesday morning.
Franklin collected CCAC Track Athlete of the Week accord after competing in a pair of events at the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Big Meet over the weekend. His top mark, which also hit the NAIA 'B' standard, came in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles, where he placed sixth out of 34 individuals with a time of 8.13 seconds. In the finals, he finished eighth at 8.21.
The senior also recorded the sixth-best time in school history in the 60-meter dash, where he needed just 6.94 seconds to complete the distance. In that event, he placed third out of 83 runners.
Foster, meanwhile, authored the second-best distance of his career in the triple jump at Grand Valley State to gain his third CCAC Field Athlete of the Week award. He placed second among seven competitors at 45 feet, 6.5 inches (13.88 meters).
