Holy Cross Gains 13 of 16 Men's Tennis Postseason Honors

CHICAGO --- Holy Cross College came within three awards of making it a clean sweep of the 2024 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis postseason honor roll when the league office made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.  Both the regular-season and postseason champs claimed 13 of the 16 total awards presented on the day with Judson University gaining the other three honors.

Holy Cross' Perry Gregg (Chicago, Ill.) continued his long-standing prowess as the top player in the six-member league by earning CCAC Player of the Year commendations for the third consecutive spring.  The junior was perfect in singles play this year, going 27-0 in the No. 1 singles slot to gain an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) No. 5 national ranking.

On the doubles side, Gregg and teammate Laurenz Flender (Wiesloch, Germany) sit No. 10 nationally, having gone 18-2.  The duo three-peated on the doubles all-conference squad and joined the Saints' other two doubles teams of Ciaran McCarthy (Portmarnock, Ireland)/Oscar Wai (Hong Kong, China) and Luca McManus (Great Britain)/Adam Singleton (Manchester, Great Britain) in sweeping all-league honors for tandem play.

Among the six singles all-conference selections, four were Saints.  Besides Gregg, there was two-time pick McManus and freshmen Wai and Singleton.

Wai was also named the CCAC Freshman of the Year.  He claimed that distinction courtesy of a 13-1 record as HCC's No. 2 singles man, while collaborating with McCarthy for an 11-2 doubles record, also at No. 2.

The other two singles selections both came from Judson's program.  Senior Alexandre Veltkamp (Streamwood, Ill.) made it a perfect 4-for-4 as a singles all-conference selection to close out his collegiate career.  He was joined on the team by fellow Eagle Chadd Kerrigan (Perth, Western Australia), who was recognized for the second time in three years.

Judson also claimed the CCAC Champion of Character Team award.

The final honor went to Holy Cross head coach Eric Mahone, who was chosen as the CCAC Coach of the Year.  The fifth-year head coach led the No. 22-ranked Saints to their most impressive season in 2024, where they advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament after upsetting No. 12 Cumberland University (Ky.).  HCC went 13-4 overall and 7-0 against league competition, including the two CCAC Tournament wins.
