VU's Paquete Oliveira, HCC's Kelly Recognized With Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

CHICAGO --- A crucial goal by Viterbo University's Alvaro Paquete Oliveira (Esmoriz, Portugal) and strong play in the net from Holy Cross College's Logan Kelly (Dallas, Tex.) have led to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors for the pair, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Paquete Oliveira gained the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week nod after delivering the game-winning goal in the V-Hawks' 1-0 victory over Trinity Christian College last Tuesday.  The freshman midfielder's tally enabled Viterbo to lock down second place in the final regular-season CCAC standings.

VU split a pair of 1-0 decisions on the week to finish the regular season 10-5-2 overall and 7-3 against league competition.

Kelly used a 17-save effort over two matches to garner CCAC Defensive Player of the Week accord.  The sophomore stopped nine shots, while allowing just one goal in a 2-1 win over Judson University last Tuesday.

Kelly followed that up with an eight-save effort in a 0-0 tie against Saint Xavier University on Saturday.  The clean sheet was his first of the season.

Holy Cross' 1-0-1 week enabled the Saints to close out the regular season at 9-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in league play.

Other Offensive Nominees: Eli Elliott (St. Ambrose), Tye Adams (Indiana Northwest), Wyatt Kernohan (Holy Cross), Diego Martin (Trinity Christian), Daniel Martinez (Olivet Nazarene), Ricardo Pinto (Calumet St. Joseph).

Other Defensive Nominees: Cedric Kunzli (Olivet Nazarene), Eduardo Canuto (Calumet St. Joseph), Devun Collins (Indiana Northwest), Daniel Martinez (Saint Xavier), Samuel Negus (Trinity Christian).
