ONU's Noordhoek, SXU's Martinez Notch Men's Soccer Weekly Accolades
CHICAGO --- An eight-point week from Olivet Nazarene University's Niels Noordhoek (Bodegraven, Netherlands) and another shutout by Saint Xavier University's Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer weekly accolades for the seven-day period ending Oct. 26, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Noordhoek collected the offensive accord after delivering three goals and two assists in two more wins for Olivet Nazarene. The freshman defender's big game came on Saturday when he authored two goals and two assists in a 7-1 victory over Holy Cross College.
Noordhoek provided his other goal last Wednesday in a 3-1 decision over Judson University.
The Tigers extended their winning streak to nine matches with the pair of victories. They remain alone atop the league standings at 8-0, while boasting a 13-2-1 overall mark.
Martinez used his seventh shutout of the season to lock down his fourth CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award. That came last Wednesday in a 2-0 victory over University of St. Francis, where the senior stopped a pair of shots.
Martinez's performance also kept him among the nation's elite goalkeepers. He currently sits first in the NAIA in save percentage (.906), while ranking tied for fifth with the seven shutouts.
The win was the only contest of the week for the Cougars, who remain in second place in the conference at 6-1-1. Overall, they are 11-3-2.
