ONU's Thaqi Gains Second Men's Soccer Weekly Award, JU's Dominguez His First
CHICAGO --- An offensive explosion has earned Olivet Nazarene University's Atjon Thaqi (Switzerland) his second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award this season, while Judson University's Ivan Dominguez (Aveiro, Portugal) used his stinginess to garner the defensive accolades, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Thaqi totaled 6 goals and four assists in just two contests during the week ending Oct. 5. All but one of those numbers came on Saturday when the freshman midfielder registered five goals and four assists in a 19-0 decision over Calumet College of St. Joseph.
Thaqi's other goal came last Tuesday in a 3-1 victory over St. Ambrose University.
The two wins, both of which came on the road, moved Olivet Nazarene to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
Dominguez collected CCAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition after posting a pair of shutouts against league competition. He stopped seven shots in total over the two matches, both of which were scoreless draws.
The junior registered four saves against Governors State University last Tuesday and another three stops versus Saint Xavier University on Saturday.
Dominguez has now gone four games in a row without allowing a goal. The shutouts were his fourth and fifth blankings of the season.
The two ties for the week put the Eagles at 1-0-3 in the CCAC and 2-4-5 overall.
