SXU's Martinez Continues Run of Men's Soccer Weekly Honors, SAU's Ferbeyre Also Recognized
CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University's Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill.) continues to reap the league plaudits on defense, while St. Ambrose University's Luiz Ferbeyre (Pachuca, Mexico) was named the top offensive performer for the seven-day period ending Sept. 21 when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its men's soccer weekly award winners on Tuesday morning.
Martinez captured his third straight CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award after recording double-digit save totals in each of two matches for a combined 23 total over a five-day span. Saint Xavier went 1-0-1 in that timeframe to improve to 5-2-1 on the campaign.
Martinez authored a season-high 12 stops against one goal allowed in a 1-1 tie with Huntington University (Ind.) on Saturday. Four days earlier, the senior produced 11 saves, while yielding two goals in a 3-2 decision over NCAA II Purdue University Northwest.
Ferbeyre was a big reason for St. Ambrose's success in a 4-3 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.), which resulted in his CCAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition. The freshman forward not only provided the game-winning goal in the match, but also added assists on two of the team's three other goals.
The contest was the only one on the week for the Fighting Bees, who are now 7-1 on the year.
Other Offensive Nominees: Daniel Martinez (Olivet Nazarene), Tre Adams (Indiana Northwest), Nigel Osei Asare (Calumet St. Joseph), Yael Diaz (Saint Xavier).
Other Defensive Nominees: Devun Collins (Indiana Northwest), Ivan Dominguez (Judson), Matthew Guifarro (Calumet St. Joseph), Cedric Kunzli (Olivet Nazarene).
