SXU's Vitaliy Hul, HCC's Rubio Key Shutout Wins, Gain Men's Soccer Weekly Accolades
CHICAGO --- Keying shutout victories in their lone contests of the seven-day period ending Aug. 31, Saint Xavier University's Mark Vitaliy Hul (Ternopil, Ukraine) and Isaias Rubio (Hillside, Ill.) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Vitaliy Hul, a junior midfielder, captured CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord. He scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 triumph over Cornerstone University (Mich.) on Wednesday. It came in the 34th minute of the contest.
The win moved the Cougars to 2-1 on the season.
Rubio played big in goal to earn CCAC Defensive Player of the Week commendations and his first shutout of the campaign. The senior stopped five shots on Saturday, including one match changer, in a 2-0 decision over highly-regarded Huntington University.
The Foresters came into the season among others receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Holy Cross evened out its record at 1-1 with the win.
