HCC's Garwood, IUSB's Olagbegi Collect Men's Basketball Weekly Accolades

CHICAGO --- Holy Cross College's Joey Garwood (Elkhart, Ind.) and Indiana University South Bend's Kyle Olagbegi (Frankfort, Ill.) have notched Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the seven-day period ending Jan. 25, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Garwood was a scoring machine in garnering CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord, averaging 30.5 points per game, while shooting no less than 68.8 percent across the board.  He hit 22 of his 32 shots overall from the field (68.8 pct.), drilled 8-of-11 three-pointers (72.7 pct.) and was near-perfect at the foul line (9-of-10).  He also provided six rebounds and three steals over his two contests.

The junior guard missed just three shots from the field last Wednesday, going 11-for-14 (78.6 pct.) with five three-pointers in six attempts en route to a 30-point performance in a 108-104 overtime setback to Governors State University.

Three days later, Garwood was one point better (31 markers) in a 94-84 decision over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.  In that game, he was 11-of-18 from the field (61.1 pct.) with three treys in five attempts, while converting all six of his free throw attempts. 

The 1-1 week left Holy Cross at 8-12 overall and 3-9 in league play.

Olagbegi, meanwhile, earned his plaudits on the defensive end, where he averaged 7.0 defensive boards, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing.  His total rebounding numbers saw him with a 9.0 average, while scoring at a 10.0 clip.

In a 79-69 loss to Saint Xavier University last Wednesday, Olagbegi produced six defensive rebounds (8 total), two steals, one block, four assists and 11 points.  The junior forward just missed a double-double on Saturday when he authored 9 points, 10 rebounds (8 defensive), four assists, three steals and one block in a 77-71 victory opposite Governors State University.

The latter victory enabled Indiana South Bend to move into a three-way tie for first place with Governors State and Olivet Nazarene University.  The Titans are 14-6 overall and 9-3 versus league foes.
