IUN's Barnes, VU's Adams Gain Week 11 Men's Basketball Recognition
CHICAGO --- A school record set by Ladaion Barnes (Hammond, Ind.) and Viterbo University's Colin Adams (La Crosse, Wis.) leading his team to a pair of victories has earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week recognition for the seven-day period ending Jan. 18, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Barnes matched his CCAC Offensive Player of the Week award with his defensive honor that he picked up earlier this year. The senior guard was unstoppable in a pair of split decisions last week, shooting 64.9 percent from the field (24-of-37) and 71.4 percent from both long distance (10-of-14) and at the free throw line (10-of-14) en route to a 34.0 scoring average. He also turned in 12 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals over the two games.
Barnes set a new IUN single-game scoring mark on Saturday when he accounted for 44 of the team's 81 points on 15-of-20 shooting from the field with only one miss in eight three-point attempts in an 81-78 victory over University of St. Francis. He was also 7-of-10 at the line and registered six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Three nights earlier, Barnes put up 24 points, six rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist in a 97-80 setback to Governors State University last Wednesday.
With the split week, Indiana Northwest is now 5-5 in league play and 8-11 overall.
Adams came away with the top defensive honors for this week after averaging 5.5 defensive rebounds (8.0 overall), 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest in the V-Hawks' two wins. Offensively, the senior forward scored at a 13.5 points-per-game clip.
In an 83-65 win over Trinity Christian College last Wednesday, Adams provided 17 points, eight rebounds (six defensive), five assists, two steals and two blocks. That was followed by a 10-point, 8-rebound, 2-block, 1-assist effort in a 64-53 decision over Holy Cross College on Saturday.
Viterbo is now 5-11 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
