Baseball Boasts 94 All-Academic Selections

CHICAGO --- Nearly 100 baseball players were recognized for their academic credentials on Thursday when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2024 Baseball All-Academic Team.  The final count was 94 individuals with five of the nine member schools that sponsor the sport having enough all-academic selections to field a full squad of starters.

St. Ambrose University came away as the top club with an impressive 22 selections.  Saint Xavier University manned the No. 2 spot with 15, or one more ahead of regular-season and tournament champion University of St. Francis.

Also posting double-figure totals were both Olivet Nazarene University with 11 recipients and Roosevelt University with ten.  Trinity Christian College added to the count with seven representatives, with Calumet College of St. Joseph, Indiana University South Bend and Judson University each placing five individuals on the team.

Included among the group were five players who have maintained a perfect 4.00 grade point average throughout their collegiate careers.  That list was made up of Roosevelt's Ben Compton, Saint Xavier's Aaron Orzech and Evan Orzech, St. Ambrose's Daniel Molony and St. Francis' Mack Malczewski.

Forty of those recognized were also part of the squad last spring.  That breakdown had 26 repeat selections, 13 players named for the third year in a row and one chosen for the fourth consecutive year.

To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at his respective CCAC school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
