Roosevelt University Names Jason Becker Head Baseball Coach

CHICAGO – Jason Becker has been named the new head baseball coach at Roosevelt University as announced by Director of Athletics John Jaramillo.

"I am excited that Jason Becker will be the head baseball coach at Roosevelt University," stated Jaramillo. "Jason's coaching resume speaks for itself as he built a consistent winner at Robert Morris, and he puts the student-athlete experience first and foremost. He has been a consummate professional and an excellent team player on the Roosevelt staff since the integration of Roosevelt and RMU, and his experience, competitiveness, passion, baseball IQ, recruiting drive, and leadership will help Roosevelt Baseball take another big step forward in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference this spring and beyond. We are lucky to have Jason here and ready to go."

"I am truly honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to lead the baseball program at Roosevelt University," said Becker. "The coaching staff and I look forward to working closely with our student-athletes to continue building a successful program."

Becker served as head coach of Robert Morris University Illinois for nine years, taking the reins of the Eagles program for the 2012 season and posting a career record of 260-174. Prior to his head coaching role, Becker was an assistant coach at RMU from 2009 to 2011 and served as the pitching coach and associate head coach for the team's NAIA World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. In addition to his role managing the Eagles baseball program, Becker served as the Director of Operations for the Robert Morris University softball team during the 2019-20 year.

A 1999 graduate of St. Joseph's College (Ind.), Becker helped the Pumas to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship during his senior season in Rensselaer, Ind. A GLVC All-Conference shortstop in 1998 and 1999, Becker is the St. Joseph's College all-time leader in stolen bases and sacrifice flies. During his junior season with the Pumas, Becker compiled a .498 on-base percentage and swiped 43 bases to set the SJC single-season record.

In recognition of his on-field success, Becker was named to the NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region Baseball Team in 1998 and 1999. The shortstop was also part of the Pumas 1996 and 1999 NCAA Division II World Series teams while competing for St. Joseph's College. Following his senior season at Bremen High School in Midlothian, Ill., Becker was drafted by Major League Baseball's New York Yankees in the 54th round of the 1995 June Amateur Draft.

After leaving St. Joseph's College, Becker assumed teaching and coaching positions at several south-suburban high schools, including Bremen, Tinley Park, and Oak Forest. Becker has also served as an instructor for the Chicago White Sox Training Camps and is currently a physical education teacher at Jack Hille Middle School in Oak Forest, Ill.

"I want to congratulate Jason and welcome him in his new role at Roosevelt," added Jaramillo. "I look forward to Jason, his wife Jennifer, and their children Hayden and Brooklyn wearing the Green and White as proud Roosevelt Lakers."
