CSU's Etcheverria, SAU's Bowyer Claim Final Weekly Women's Soccer Awards For 2022
CHICAGO --- Three-goal weeks from Cardinal Stritch University's Rosario Etcheverria (La Coruna, Spain) and St. Ambrose University's Genevieve Bowyer (Trussville, Ala.) have earned the pair the final Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards for 2022, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Etchevarria's goals all came in the same game as part of a hat trick for the freshman forward in her first-ever collegiate postseason contest. The effort in Cardinal Stritch's 4-0 victory over Saint Xavier University enabled her to claim CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord.
The win in the first round of the CCAC Tournament moved the No. 2-seeded Wolves (14-3-1) into Wednesday's semifinal-round matchup with St. Ambrose.
Bowyer, meanwhile, broke up her goals into two contests, while also being part of a shutout for the Fighting Bees in gaining CCAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition. The sophomore defender registered one goal in SAU's regular-season finale – a 13-0 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday – before finding the back of the net twice in a 3-2 double-overtime win against Judson University on Saturday.
Bowyer's final goal of the week in the 93rd minute of the Judson match proved to be the game winner. She also helped keep the Eagles from taking a shot in the two ten-minute overtime periods.
The two victories moved St. Ambrose to 13-3-3 on the season heading into the No. 3-seeded Bees' semifinal-round date with No. 2 seed Cardinal Stritch.
Other Offensive Nominees: Taylor DeSplinter (St. Ambrose), Litzy Corona (Trinity Christian), Olivia Lorenc (Olivet Nazarene).
Other Defensive Nominees: Annabel Murley (Olivet Nazarene), Michelle Urribarri (Trinity Christian).
