Women's Basketball Players of the Week Take On All-Indiana Look With IUN's Carrothers, HCC's Adams

CHICAGO --- Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week honors took on an all-Indiana look for the seven-day period ending Feb. 2 with Indiana University Northwest's Jessica Carrothers (Highland, Ind.) earning her sixth offensive award and Holy Cross College's Grace Adams (Elkhart, Ind.) snagging her first defensive honor when the league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

The nation's No. 1 scorer across all four-year college divisions of men's and women's basketball, Carrothers added to that average with her 44-point blowout in a 73-68 loss to Saint Xavier University on Saturday.  It marked the third time this season that the junior guard hit the 40-point plateau this season and put her season-high scoring average at 30.5 points per game.

In the contest, Carrothers went 16-for-30 from the field (53.3 pct.) and a perfect 12-for-12 at the foul line.  She also was credited with five rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block.

Carrothers provided another 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in a 62-53 victory against Holy Cross last Wednesday.  That put her weekly averages at 29.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest, while shooting 55.3 percent from the field (21-of-38) and 17-of-17 at the line.

The split decision for the week put Indiana Northwest at 17-5 overall and 10-4 in conference action.

Adams netted CCAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after averaging 8.5 defensive rebounds (11.0 overall), 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocks per outing.  Offensively, she delivered an average of 20.0 points per game across two contests.

All 11 of Adams' rebounds in the setback to Indiana Northwest came on the defensive glass, while also recording three blocks, two steals and 17 points.

The senior forward was the key Saint in Holy Cross' 92-51 victory opposite Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.  In that game, Adams delivered another 11 rebounds (six on defense), four steals, two blocks, three assists and 23 points.

The 1-1 week left Holy Cross at 14-8 overall and 8-6 against league competition.
