HCC's Rubio, SXU's Aguilera Notch Men's Soccer Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Holy Cross College's Isaias Rubio (Hillside, Ill.) continued his mastery in goal, while Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill.) provided a pair of game-winners for Saint Xavier University during the seven-day period from Oct. 6-12 to land Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Rubio authored his fifth shutout of the season last Wednesday en route to CCAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition. He stopped 10 shots in the match, a 3-0 decision over Governors State University.
The senior then came on in relief to hold on for a 4-3 victory over University of St. Francis on Saturday. In that outing, he recorded three saves against one goal over the final 45 minutes.
The honor was the second of the season for Rubio.
Holy Cross remained unbeaten in league play (5-0) with the two wins, while improving to 8-4 overall.
Aguilera was a perfect 2-for-2 on game-winning goals last week to claim the conference's offensive accord. He played a role in all three of the Cougars' scores with two goals and one assist
The senior forward provided the first goal before adding an assist in a 2-0 victory over St. Ambrose University last Wednesday. He then accounted for the match's only goal on a penalty kick in a victory over Indiana University Northwest on Saturday.
Saint Xavier is now 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 against CCAC competition.
