ONU's Seaton, IUSB's Dowler Pick Up Baseball Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Olivet Nazarene University's Alex Seaton (Delavan, Ill.) keyed a five-win week and Indiana University South Bend's Noah Dowler (Aurora, Ill.) logged a one-hit shutout during the seven-day period ending April 12 enabling the pair to capture Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly baseball honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Seaton batted .348 with eight runs batted in in a doubleheader sweep of Trinity Christian and taking three of four games from Saint Xavier University to claim CCAC Player of the Week recognition. He scored at least one run in each of the team's six games last week, while producing multi-RBI contests three times.
The sophomore infielder had two RBIs each in the two wins versus Trinity Christian last Tuesday before opening the four-game set against Saint Xavier with three hits in six at-bats in a 14-9 victory on Friday. He also had two hits in Game 2 on both Friday and Saturday and drove in three runs in the latter affair.
Olivet Nazarene's 5-1 record for the week moved the Tigers within one game of first place in the league standings. ONU is 19-9 in conference games and 23-19 overall.
CCAC Pitcher of the Week accord went to Dowler following his performance on Saturday. In a 6-0 shutout of Trinity Christian, the junior right-hander went all nine innings, allowing just one hit, which came with two outs in the eighth inning. He also struck out 11 batters opposite four walks.
Indiana South Bend went 4-2 on the week to even its league record at 12-12 and improve to 17-24 overall.
