SAU's Flanagan, USF's Panzella Recognized With Baseball Weekly Honors

CHICAGO --- A .692 on-base percentage from St. Ambrose University's Quinn Flanagan (Wheaton, Ill.) and Anthony Panzella's (Tinley Park, Ill.) first shutout of the season for University of St. Francis during the seven-day period ending March 29 secured Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly baseball honors for the pair, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Flanagan reached base 14 times in six games en route to his CCAC Player of the Week award.  He batted .533 (8-for-15) with seven runs batted in.

The senior infielder hit safely and also scored at least one run in each of the six contests, finishing with ten runs scored all told.  In four of the six contests, he delivered a pair of runs, including Saturday's finale, where he went 3-for-3 with a double in a 7-2 second-game victory over Viterbo University.

Flanagan also had a streak of three straight games driving in a pair of runs starting with the second game of a twinbill versus Olivet Nazarene University last Tuesday and continuing through the first two games of the four-game set with Viterbo over the weekend.

St. Ambrose went 4-2 on the week and mans the top spot in the conference at 13-5.  Overall, the Fighting Bees are 18-13.

Panzella authored the second shutout of his St. Francis career to nail down CCAC Pitcher of the Week accord.  The fifth-year graduate student did so against Saint Xavier University in a 3-0 victory on Friday.

Panzella struck out six batters without yielding a walk and scattered six hits in the league showdown.  He also produced a 0.86 WHIP.

The Saints' 1-3 week left them at 9-9 in conference play and 12-20 overall.
