CHICAGO --- A four-game sweep of Indiana University South Bend during the seven-day period ending March 22 led to a sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly baseball accolades for Saint Xavier University products John Simecek (Twinsburg, Ohio) and Cole Martz (Huntington, Ind.) on Tuesday morning when the league office made the announcement.

Simecek collected his second CCAC Player of the Week award this season after producing three home runs among his six hits and driving in six runs.  His other numbers included a .400 batting average, six runs scored and three stolen bases.

On defense, the junior infielder handled all 25 of his chances cleanly, while also helping turn three double plays.

Simecek opened the four-game weekend series in a big way with two home runs, three runs batted in and three total hits in a 10-2 victory.  His other home run came in the nightcap, a 6-1 win.

Simecek provided his other two hits in the series in the first game on Saturday, where he also scored twice and had one RBI in an 8-4 triumph.

Martz was named the CCAC Pitcher of the Week after allowing the fewest number of runs amongst all Cougar hurlers last week.  In fact, the only run he permitted was an unearned one, which came in the 6-1 decision on Friday.

The junior pitcher went the seven-inning distance in the contest, striking out nine batters against two walks and just one hit.

Saint Xavier's perfect 4-0 week moved the Cougars to 8-2 in league play and 13-10 overall.

Other Player Nominees: Alex Seaton (Olivet Nazarene), Jack Barnes (Indiana South Bend), Xavier Gilmore (Viterbo), Blake Stempowski (Judson).

Other Pitcher Nominees: Nicholas Gniedziejko (Olivet Nazarene), Anthony Panzella (St. Francis), Riley Thomas (Indiana South Bend), Owen Wanner (Judson).
