No. 4 Trinity Christian College advances to the semi-final round of the conference tournament win over No. 5 Illinois Institute of Technology. The upset victory was an exciting five game match with scores of 24-30, 30-26, 30-26, 26-30, and 17-15. The Trolls advance to the semi-final round and will take on No. 1 seed University of St. Francis on November 8 at 7:30 pm.
Tournament time produces good competition and that was certainly the case in this post-season event. Both teams came out ready to play. The Trolls were looking to avenge the regular season loss to this conference opponent.
In each of the five games the final scored was never more than six points. The entire match went back and forth with each team fighting to take control. IIT grabbed the early advantage by taking game one. However the Trolls answered back and went ahead 2-1. IIT made the match even with a win in game four.
The fifth deciding match was fought down to the wire. The score went back and forth and was tied numerous times. IIT gained game point advantage first, but Trinity tied it up and then took the lead. Eventually the Trolls put an end to the match with the final two points and the 17-15 victory.
For the match the Trolls had a balanced attack. Outside hitter Megan Winters led the attack with 19 kills while junior Michelle Schurman had 16 and middle hitters Bethany Bandstra and Sara Ooms each contributed ten. Allison Katsma and Kelly McKinney ended with 29 and 25 assists respectively. Winters led the way on defense with 25 digs while Nichole Heyboer had 18.
