With the 2009-10 academic
year in the books, Olivet
Nazarene University
has captured its third-straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic
Conference (CCAC)
Commissioner's Cup. The Tigers accumulated 94.5 points to find
themselves atop
the list of the 14 CCAC institutions.
SaintXavierUniversity finished second in the standings with
75.5 points, while the University
of St. Francis placed
third, just five points behind SXU. Judson
University was in fourth
place with 60 points. The fifth and sixth slots were separated by just a half
of a point, with Robert Morris University
gaining the advantage with 53.5 points, while Trinity Christian
College had 53 points.
Separated by just one point, Cardinal
Stritch University
finished in seventh place with 40.5 points and Illinois Institute of Technology
landed in eighth with 39.5 points. Trinity
International University
was in ninth place with 29 points and Calumet College of St. Joseph rounded out
the top-10 with 27.5 points. With six or less sports competing in the CCAC, the
final four schools have a slight disadvantage. Purdue-North Central (9.5
points), Holy Cross College
(8 points), Purdue University-Calumet (7.5 points) and Indiana University-South
Bend (5) rounded out the standings.
The top seven teams claimed
all the championships for all sports.
Olivet Nazarene claimed first
place by capturing the regular-season and tournament titles in both volleyball
and softball. The Tigers also won the men's cross country championship and both
the men's and women's outdoor track championship. The men's soccer team
finished third in the regular-season standings and won the tournament
championship to contribute points to the total.
Saint Xavier won both the
women's basketball division II regular-season and tournament titles and won the
women's cross country championship.
St. Francis won the league's inaugural
men's golf championship and earned the regular-season title for baseball.
Judson won the
regular-season men's soccer title and claimed the Division II men's basketball
tournament championship.
Robert Morris won the Division
I men's basketball regular-season and tournament titles and also claimed the
baseball tournament championship.
Trinity Christian's women's
soccer team collected regular-season and tournament titles.
Cardinal Stritch's women's basketball
team earned the regular-season and tournament titles for Division II, while the
men won the regular-season title for Division II basketball.
The Commissioner's Cup is
given annually to the member institution that collects the most combined points
in relationship to placement in league-sponsored sports between its men's and
women's athletic programs.
