Student-athletes from IU South Bend women's basketball team show support for Pink Zone Day.

South Bend, IN - Indiana University South Bend Athletics, in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), took part in "Pink Zone" Day on Tuesday, February 2nd, when the women's and men's basketball teams played host to Olivet Nazarene University.  The goal of the event was to help increase awareness about the fight against breast cancer.

The event was part of the WBCA's "Pink Zone" initiative, which currently includes more than 600 participating schools.  "We are extremely proud to participate in the Pink Zone Day initiative," said IU South Bend Executive Director of Athletics and Activities Gary Demski.  "This is a wonderful opportunity for the IU South Bend Athletics Department to do our part in the fight against this disease.  We had a wonderful turnout and provided fans with a pleasant experience."

IU South Bend sophomore student-athlete Lizzie Stapke is proud that her teammates took part in such a wonderful event.  "This hits home to me personally as my mom is a proud survivor of breast cancer.  We are doing this to show support for people who are currently fighting the disease, survivors and their families."

Both teams dawned pink apparel to show their support.  All proceeds generated through ticket sales or donations will go towards the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
