Taking her Olivet Nazarene University team to both the 2009 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament volleyball crowns, senior setter Erin Sikora (Elgin, Ill.) headlined the 2009 all-CCAC team by being named both the league's most valuable player and setter of the year, when the postseason honors were announced Friday evening.
Sikora, who repeated as the conference's setter of the year, averaged 10.22 assists per game during the 2009 regular season, which ranked second in the league. She also averaged over 1.1 kills per game, while attacking at a .310 clip and chipping in 27 services aces. Sikora was a force on defense, as well, totaling 300 digs (2.21 average) and nearly one-half block per game, appearing in all 136 games played by the Tigers in 2009.
Sikora was one of six Olivet Nazarene players named to the all-conference team with a league-high four on the first team and two honorable mention choices.
ONU head coach Brenda Williams also made her way to the presentation stage after capturing CCAC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight time.
Right behind Olivet Nazarene in total medal count was University of St. Francis, which also placed second behind the Tigers during both regular and postseason play. Two Saints among the five that were honored were singled out for their outstanding play with senior Courtney Ambrosch (Joliet, Ill.) being named the CCAC Libero of the Year and outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (Peru, Ill.) claiming the league's Freshman of the Year honor. Ambrosch ranked third in the conference in digs per game (5.32) during the regular season and netted a .957 reception percentage with just under 4.5 passes per game. Robbins produced the league's second-highest kill average (3.69) and the sixth-best hitting percentage (.285).
Illinois Institute of Technology, Saint Xavier University and Trinity International University each placed three of its players on either the first team or in the honorable mention category, while Cardinal Stritch University, Judson University and Trinity Christian College each gained a pair of nods. Calumet College of St. Joseph and Robert Morris University each posted one player on the honorable mention list.
Olivet Nazarene (33-8, 10-0 CCAC) netted its fifth straight conference tournament crown Friday night in earning its fourth straight bid to the NAIA national tournament, which opens Nov. 21 at a site to be announced.
