PUNC's Chris Schultz was one of three CCAC baseball players to earn All-America status.

Three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball players, including both the league's player and pitcher of the year, have been named 2009 NAIA Baseball All-Americans, it was announced by the NAIA National Office on Thursday.

CCAC Player of the Year Chris Schultz (Elgin, Ill.) from Purdue University North Central and CCAC Pitcher of the Year Jayson Koehn (Beecher, Ill.) from Saint Xavier University were both named to the first team, while SXU's John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill.) was an honorable mention pick.

Schultz led the league in virtually every offensive category batting .445 (85-of-191) with 14 home runs, 61 runs batted in and another 52 runs scored in 54 games played. He also boasted a .493 on-base average and a .832 slugging percentage courtesy of 38 of his 85 hits going for extra bases (16 doubles, 8 triples, 14 home runs).

Defensively, Schultz, a senior first baseman/outfielder, was just as sharp committing only one error in 152 fielding chances (.993).

Koehn, a junior lefthander, was equally as impressive on the mound, where he compiled a 9-1 record with a sparkling 1.00 earned run average allowing only eight earned runs in 72 innings pitched. In 12 appearances - all starts - he tossed seven complete games with five being shutouts.

Koehn, who won each of his first nine decisions, yielded just 48 hits in the 72 innings with opponents batting only .185 off him.

O'Brien's numbers weren't far off the pace of Schultz from an offensive or defensive standpoint.

Offensively, the junior shortstop hit .424 (67-of-158) with a .520 on-base average and a .709 slugging percentage. In 51 games, he totaled a league-high 71 RBI, 57 runs scored, 17 doubles, 5 triples and 6 home runs. Defensively, he fielded all but four of his 192 chances cleanly for a .979 fielding percentage.

Saint Xavier, the CCAC regular-season champion, and Purdue University North Central, the league runner-up, both advanced to the NAIA National Championship - First Round before falling. Saint Xavier finished 41-15, while Purdue North Central went 31-24.
