Not only did Saint Xavier University carry home the hardware as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball champion in 2009, the Cougars also led the way in all-CCAC selections as well as Rawlings Gold Glove winners and claimed the awards for both CCAC Pitcher and Coach of the Year when they were announced on Monday.

Seven different SXU players in all were recognized led by junior Jayson Koehn, the league's pitcher of the year and one of three Cougar gold glove winners. Koehn (Beecher, Ill. ) went a perfect 9-0 through the regular season with a nearly-untouchable 0.69 earned run average. He allowed only five runs in 65 1/3 innings on the mound. He also struck out 49 batters, while walking only 12.

Besides the three gold glove picks, the Cougars turned up five players on the all-CCAC team with one more player garnering honorable mention status.
 

University of St. Francis was next in line with five total selections between the all-conference and gold glove teams and the honorable mention choices followed by Robert Morris College and Judson University with four each.

Trinity Christian College, Illinois Institute of Technology and Olivet Nazarene University each totaled three selections between the groupings.

Purdue University North Central boasted the league's player of the year in Chris Schultz (Elgin, Ill.). The senior first baseman/outfielder led the conference in no fewer than five categories with his .456 batting average, .863 slugging percentage, 83 hits, 8 triples and 14 home runs. He also placed second in runs batted in with 61.

Olivet Nazarene's Casey Mast (Lansing, Ill.) was named the CCAC Freshman of the Year after leading the Tigers in wins (seven), complete games (four) and earned run average (2.82) on the mound. He finished the season going 7-2.

Saint Xavier's Mike Dooley was chosen as the CCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a No. 24 national ranking, a 39-13 regular-season record and the league title with a 25-5 mark.
