Saint Xavier University nudged out a tight field of six contenders to earn the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season softball title and the Cougars did the same in the all-conference balloting with a league-high four players being named to the 2009 all-CCAC Team, when it was announced on Monday.

Olivet Nazarene University, University of St. Francis, Robert Morris College and Judson University all boasted three members on the team with Robert Morris joining Saint Xavier with the most overall selections between all-conference and honorable mention status with five.

Olivet Nazarene, St. Francis and Purdue University North Central were right behind with four picks each.

Olivet Nazarene third baseman Rachel Comoglio (Logansport, Ind.) was named the CCAC Player of the Year, while teammate Jordan Reynolds (Metamora, Ill.) was recognized as the freshman player of the year.

Comoglio, a junior, batted a league-leading .482 in conference games and .377 overall in 52 games played heading into the conference tournament. She also ranked first both overall and in conference contests in runs batted in (52 overall, 22 in league games) and on-base percentage (.495 overall, .554 in league games).

Reynolds, a right fielder, batted .350 overall and .364 in league affairs. Reynolds tied Comoglio for the most home runs in the conference covering all games (seven) and also finished in a two-way tie for the top spot in home runs in CCAC games only with Trinity International University's Arielle Ogorek. Both players had six round-trippers.

On the pitching mound, Saint Xavier's Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill.) won a tight race for CCAC Pitcher of the Year honors. She posted the best overall earned run average (1.48), while tying Robert Morris' Ashley Havertine with 13 total victories. Overall, Shearer was 13-7 heading into the conference tournament and 7-1 with a 1.11 earned run average during the conference season.

Judson University's Virginia McAndrews (Wheaton, Ill.) garnered the most votes for freshman pitcher of the year after going undefeated in conference games (7-0) with a miniscule 0.55 earned run average. In 51 innings, she allowed only four earned runs. Overall, McAndrews was 9-6 with a 2.18 earned run average.
 
SXU's Myra Minuskin was named the CCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to both the conference regular-season and tournament titles and a berth in the NAIA Softball National Championship.
