The combination of Jayson Koehn ( Beecher, Ill.) and John O'Brien ( Lake Zurich, Ill.) KO'd the competition for Saint Xavier University this past week as the Cougars extended their season-high winning streak to ten games with their four-game sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition over the seven-day period ending April 5.

O'Brien, a shortstop, was unstoppable at the plate in earning CCAC Player of the Week honors, while Koehn kept up his season-long brilliance on the mound in claiming the league's pitcher of the week honor.

O'Brien collected hits in all but four of his 14 at bats (.714) during the week and averaged one RBI per at bat to go along with another seven runs scored in the four games. He also nearly pulled off the triple-double of baseball in each of his four games with multiple hits, RBIs and runs scored in the same game three times.

In each of O'Brien's first three contests, he drove in no less than three runs in any one game thanks in large part to five of his six extra base hits coming during that stretch. O'Brien missed hitting for the cycle by a single in SXU's 7-5 win over Illinois Institute of Technology on April 1 and followed that up with a two-homer, 6-RBI game on April 3 in a 17-11 slugfest win over Trinity International University.

All told, O'Brien posted a 1.643 slugging percentage for the week with his two doubles, one triple and three home runs.

Koehn, the nation's leader in earned run average at 0.56, did nothing to hurt that number by tossing his second shutout of the season in a 10-0 win over Trinity International University on April 4. Koehn struck out seven, walked two and allowed three hits in six innings in registering his fourth complete game of the season.

After starting out the season 11-9, the Cougars are now 12 games over the .500 mark at 21-9, while sitting alone atop the CCAC standings board at 10-2.
