Michelle Stelloh's 16 points and six rebounds weren't enough for Cardinal Stritch in its opening-round loss to Cornerstone.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa --- Cornerstone University (Mich.) used a late run in the first half to gain some breathing room and went on to defeat Cardinal Stritch University in the first game of the NAIA Division II Womens' Basketball National Tournament, 72-53.

Cornerstone took a 40-32 lead at halftime, scoring the last eight points of the half for the margin.
Cornerstone's Brooke Carter led the Michigan school with 18 points on 7-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, while Kara Overbeek added 14 points, another seven boards and three assists. Jenna Plewes knocked down 12 points and had a game-high 10 rebounds.  She also dished off three assists.

Cardinal Stritch's lone player in double figures was Michelle Stelloh with 16 points.  She also had a team-high six rebounds.

Cornerstone, 27-7 this season and champions of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, will face the winner of the Concordia (Neb.)-Taylor (Ind.) game at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
 
Cardinal Stritch finishes the year at 20-11.
