With Judson University needing two wins to capture a share of its second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Division II regular-season championship, freshman Josh Edwards (Mapleton, Ill.) stepped up big for the Eagles delivering 26 and 11 points in the eventual victories and netting CCAC Men's Division II Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 22 in the process.
It marked the second time this season that Edwards has been recognized.
A 6-2 guard, Edwards picked the perfect time to author his seventh 20-plus point performance of the season, doing so against league leader and NAIA II No. 25-ranked Trinity Christian College in an 80-76 Eagle victory on Feb. 18. Edwards nailed six three-pointers in 12 attempts in the contest and went 9-of-16 from the field overall on the night. He also registered two steals, two assists and one rebound in the victory that moved Judson into a first-place tie with the Trolls.
For the week, Edwards averaged 18.5 points per game and shot .565 from the field. Included was a rock solid .500 mark from three-point range, where Edwards converted 9 of his 18 attempts.
Judson finished the regular season 20-10 overall and 10-2 in the conference enabling the Eagles to share first place with both Trinity Christian and Cardinal Stritch University.
