ELGIN, Ill. --- And then there were only Saints left.

The 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Championships are down to St. Ambrose University, Saint Xavier University and University of St. Francis after Indiana University South Bend, Olivet Nazarene University and Purdue University Northwest were all eliminated from contention following Monday's activity.

St. Ambrose (27-23) remained as the only unbeaten after quieting the Saint Xavier bats in a 6-1 win Monday morning.  St. Francis also stayed alive by holding both Purdue Northwest and Indiana South Bend scoreless in 1-0 and 12-0 wins.

That sets the stage for Tuesday with Saint Xavier (27-28) and St. Francis (33-25) squaring off in an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. with the winner to face St. Ambrose in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.  If a second championship game is needed, that would take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Recapping Monday:

St. Ambrose 6, Saint Xavier 1 (Box): Home runs by Zach Hart (two-run shot) and Mike Miller (solo) in the bottom of the third inning sparked a string of six unanswered runs by St. Ambrose en route to the victory.  Miller added another run-producing hit later on as part of a 3-for-4 day for him, while Hart posted two hits and scored twice.  Nate Kurtz (4-1) came within one out of authoring the complete-game victory.  Ryan Pellack went 3-for-5 for the Cougars.

St. Francis 1, Purdue Northwest 0 (Box): John Riordan took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, but still had his shutout preserved when CJ Duffek gunned down the potential tying run following Tyler Crussen's single to right field.  Anthony Faron drove in St. Francis' only run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.  Josh Arnold (3-2) was the tough-luck loser, allowing just six hits in the complete-game effort.

Indiana South Bend 7, Olivet Nazarene 4 (Box): Falling behind 3-0 after four-and-one-half innings, Indiana South Bend got one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning before rattling off six runs in the sixth inning to advance.  Zack Lazenby's bases-clearing triple was the key hit in the inning.  Tanner Wesp and Nick Kellams each drove in a run as part of a 2-for-4 day for them.  Kurtis Minton and Bryan Klendworth did the same for Olivet Nazarene with each recording three hits in four at bats.  Trey Bickel (5-7) registered the win on the mound for the Titans.

St. Francis 12, Indiana South Bend 0 (Box): Matt DeGraw (6-2) matched Riordan's shutout by authoring the first one of his St. Francis career in the nightcap.  He scattered six hits and a pair of walks, while striking out seven batters.  As a team, the Saints collected 16 hits and took control of the contest in the middle innings when they turned a 2-0 lead after three innings into a 9-0 advantage after six innings with three runs in the fifth inning and another four in the sixth inning.  Tyler Schoonover, Tom Smith and Michalak all registered three hits with Schoonover scoring four runs and Smith driving in a pair.  Nick Fleischauer also drove home two runs and had two hits.
