ELGIN, Ill. --- St. Ambrose University and Saint Xavier University both kept their hitting shoes on, while Olivet Nazarene University and Purdue University Northwest kept their playoff runs alive with victories in second-round action of the 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday.

The net results left St. Ambrose and Saint Xavier as the lone remaining unbeatens in the eight-team, double-elimination field and both regular-season champion Judson University and Robert Morris University Illinois having their tournament runs end after only two games.

After a day of no play on Sunday, Saint Xavier and St. Ambrose will kick things back off on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with the rest of the day being all elimination games.

Recapping Saturday:

St. Ambrose 11, St. Francis 4 (Box): St. Ambrose scored early and often, leaving St. Francis trailing 5-0 after three innings and 10-1 after five in an eventual 11-4 setback.  Mike Miller and Tommy Goodale did the majority of the damage with each player driving in four runs. Miller, who went 4-for-5, fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle, while Goodale deposited a three-run home run in a five-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach.  Jake McCabe (7-4) went the first six innings on the mound to get the win.

Saint Xavier 13, Indiana South Bend 7 (Box): For the second straight day, Saint Xavier scored a baker's dozen worth of runs and put its hit total at 31 over two games with another 16 on Saturday.  Five Cougars in all posted multiple hits topped by Mike Monahan (4-for-4, 5 RBI), Ben Zordani (3-for-5, 3 runs) and Alex Neufeld (3-for-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI).  Monahan came within a triple of hitting for the cycle with an RBI single, a two-run double and a solo home run.  He also drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk.  Indiana South Bend also had five of six batters at the top of the order collect at least two hits with Spencer McCool (3-for-5) leading the way.  Sammy Nieves and Josh Fry also drove in a pair of runs for the Titans.  Saint Xavier starting pitcher David Strom (5-4) earned the win with his six innings of work.

Purdue Northwest 3, Judson 2 (Box): Purdue Northwest took advantage of everything Judson gave it, scoring a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning and the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to make the Eagles' run in the tournament brief.  Cullen Mayhew drove in Judson's two runs and finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate.  Jimmy Skiff (4-3) allowed only one run in seven innings to gain the win.

Olivet Nazarene 4, Robert Morris Illinois 2 (Box): Gabe Sevigny accounted for all three runs in the only inning that mattered for Olivet Nazarene as the senior shortstop drove in a pair of runs and scored the final tally of the inning to put the Tigers up for good.  That was enough for Nick Campe to earn his ninth win of the season (against six losses).  He struck out nine, while allowing six hits and two walks over his seven innings of work.
