The Trinity Christian College women's soccer team (20-1) earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Saint Xavier University in a play-in game. The Trolls scored in the 60th minute to post the shut-out victory and claim the soccer program's first ever trip to NAIA nationals.
From the start the game had the intensity that a championship game deserved with both teams attacking. Throughout the first half the Trolls took eight total shots, challenging the Saint Xavier goalkeeper in five attempts. Saint Xavier was on-goal in two of their three tries.
Trinity continued to pick up the intensity in the second half and was determined to score. Fifteen minutes into the half Claire Comerouski took a shot that the Cougar goalie batted away. Carly Comerouksi, who was on the near right side of the goal, controlled that deflected ball and finished for the score.
For the remaining 30 minutes the Trolls pushed for another goal, taking a total of 14 shots in the half. They limited Saint Xavier to just one shot.
The Trolls advance to the NAIA National Tournament that begins with opening rounds on November 22. The pairings and sites for the first round will be released on Sunday, November 16 at 7 pm on the NAIA website (www.naia.org)
