ELGIN, Ill. --- A 15-hit attack led by junior catcher Ryan Pellack made for a historic day in Saint Xavier University baseball history as the Cougars claimed their first-ever Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament title with a 6-2 victory over University of St. Francis Thursday afternoon at Judson University's Hoffer Field.

Pellack delivered three hits in the game, two of which drove in runs including one on his sixth home run of the season.  He was one of six Cougars to record multiple hits on the day.  The rest of that group was made up of Erik Eggert, Drey Devereaux, Tom Hayes, Mark Martin and David Strom, all of whom collected two hits each.  Hayes also drove in a pair of runs, while Strom and Alex Neufeld were credited with one run batted in each.

Pellack pushed home the first run of the game with a single in the Cougars' opening frame only to have St. Francis answer with a two-run home run off the bat of Anthony Faron one-half inning later.

Saint Xavier tied the game at 2-2 on Hayes' RBI single in the fourth inning and he later scored on Neufeld's sacrifice fly to put the Cougars up for good, 3-2.  Head coach Rocco Mossuto's club tacked on another two runs one inning later starting with Pellack's blast to open the frame.

Strom closed out the scoring with his single in the seventh inning.

Tyler Hebel (7-1) worked the first 6 2/3 innings to register the win on the mound before Eggert wrapped the game up with his sixth save of the season.

The victory lands Saint Xavier (31-24) the league's second automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round, which runs May 17-20.  The Cougars' tournament site will be announced Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. by the NAIA National Office.
