Both Olivet Nazarene University and Tiger sophomore right-side attacker Tara Schmidt (Olathe, Kan.) remained on fire as the latter earned Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week accolades for the second straight week and the No. 22-ranked Tigers extended their winning streak to 11 matches in a row during the week ending Oct. 12.
Just like she was one week earlier, Schmidt was a force both offensively and defensively along the net for the Tigers, who won all five of their matches over the seven-day period and dropped only one of their 16 games. That loss came in a four-set victory over NAIA No. 9-rated Georgetown College (Ky.).
The Tigers still prevailed in that match due to Schmidt's strong defensive effort in neutralizing Georgetown's outside game. Schmidt registered five of her 13 blocks for the week in that match, while tallying at least one in each of her team's other four contests.
Offensively, she turned in a .368 attack percentage for the week with an average of 3.44 kills per game.
The win over Georgetown enabled ONU to claim its own Holiday Inn Express Tournament after going a perfect 4-0 with Schmidt landing a spot on the all-tournament team.
Olivet Nazarene, which has also claimed 22 of its last 23 matches, takes its perfect 7-0 record in league play and 27-8 overall mark into competition this week.
