Saint Xavier University's Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill.) and Trinity Christian College's Leanne Visser (Jenison, Mich.) could not have done any more to ensure their respective teams' a pair of victories with their play during the week ending Oct. 5. That led to the duo being named the offensive and defensive players of the week in women's soccer for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Steinhaus, a sophomore forward, had a hand in on six of the Cougars' eight goals during the week, while Visser, a senior defender, made major contributions to a defense that did not allow a goal in either of its two wins.
Steinhaus opened her big week by playing a part in all five Saint Xavier goals in a 5-1 conference victory over University of St. Francis on Sept. 30. There, she tallied three goals and two assists.
She then added a goal in a 3-0 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology on Oct. 4.
The two wins enabled Saint Xavier to remain as one of only two perfect teams in the league at 4-0. Overall, the Cougars are 6-5-1.
The other perfect league record belongs to NAIA No. 13-ranked Trinity Christian, which is also unbeaten in all 12 of its overall contests this season.
Ten of those victories have been of the shutout variety with Visser being a key player. She was part of a defense that allowed only two shots on goal in a 2-0 win over Judson University on Oct. 1 and just one shot in a 5-0 victory over St. Francis on Oct. 4.
