Trinity Christian College's Carly Comerouski (Itasca, Ill.) did not need much time on the field to pick up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors in women's soccer, but Saint Xavier University needed all they could get out of Andrea Fischer (Lincoln, Neb.) - the league's top defensive player for the week - in gaining a split of its two decisions in the week ending September 7.
In averaging just 32 minutes of playing time in each of two games, Comerouski produced three goals and one assist as the Trolls continued their season-opening scoring flurry and stinginess. Two of Comerouski's three goals and her only assist on the week came in an 11-0 victory over Midland Lutheran College (Neb.) on Sept. 1. The junior forward added her other goal on Sept. 6 in a 6-0 victory over Aquinas College (Mich.), the defending Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference champion.
Trinity Christian's two shutout victories on the week give the Trolls four in as many games played this season. Head coach Josh Lenarz's club has now outscored its opposition 30-0 to start 2008.
Fischer, a sophomore defender, did all she could to have Saint Xavier match Trinity Christian's perfect 2-0 week. Led by her strong defensive play, the Cougars allowed only one goal in each of their two games played, yet could only come away with a split of their two decisions. Saint Xavier dropped a tough 1-0 contest to Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Sept. 6, but came back to grab a 5-1 win over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) the next day (Sept. 7).
The split left SXU 1-2-1 on the season.
