Chicago, IL - The Robert Morris Women's Basketball team took control late in the first half and continued into the second, outscoring the Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology 33-10 during a twelve-minute span for a 80-49 win in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinal game on March 4, 2008, at the Gentile Center in Chicago, IL.
Some accurate shooting from beyond the three-point arc kept IIT in the game through most of the first half, but after they drew within a pair at 25-23, the Lady Eagles closed out the half on a 12-2 run. That run was fueled by strong work on the boards at both ends by Jessica Harris (Chicago, IL) and Chanel Jones-Delas (Toronto, Ontario). The Lady Eagles out-rebounded IIT 35-25 for the game on the way to shooting 50 from the field.
RMC put the game out of reach over the first ten minutes of the second half, out-scoring the Scarlet Hawks 21-8 during that period and running out to the 31-point win.
The Lady Eagles were led by Chanel Jones-Delas who scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds; she also came up with six steals. Jessica Harris backed her with 11 points and five rebounds. Ashley Banks (Chicago, IL) scored 10 and dished out five assists for RMC.
Rashida Joiner (Chicago, IL) and Courtney Fisher (Seattle, WA) each scored 14 for IIT.
RMC forced 26 turnovers and had seventeen steals. IIT shot only one free throw while the Lady Eagles were 16-of-22 from the charity stripe.
RMC improves to 19-12 overall. IIT closes out its season at 11-20.
The Lady Eagles advance to the CCAC Semi-Finals and will face the #2-seed, 18th-ranked Olivet Nazarene, on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at McHie Arena on the ONU campus in Bourbonnais, IL. RMC upset the Tigers 99-93 at the Gentile Center in the final game of the regular season.
