Palos Heights, Ill. --- Amanda Learned joined an elite group of athletes Monday night when Trinity Christian College opened up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament play with a 92-52 victory over Purdue University Calumet (Ind.). Learned reached the 1,000-point milestone, becoming the 15th Trinity women’s basketball player to achieve the prestigious career mark.
Learned, a junior forward who averages 13.1 points per game this season, entered the contest against Purdue Calumet just 13 points shy of the 1,000 mark. She had accumulated 595 points in her first two seasons with the Trolls and had 392 points by the end of this year’s regular-season schedule.
Learned was well on her way to reaching the goal as she landed nine points in the first half of the contest. She opened the second half with a three-pointer, leaving her just one point shy. The milestone point came at 17:10 when she hit two free throws to put her at and over the 1,000-point mark. She went on to tally a total of 19 points for the game to bring her present career total to 1,006.
With the victory, Trinity Christian (12-19) advances to the semifinal round of the tournament, where it will face NAIA No. 9-ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
